Resolution no. 1

Well, here’s my first New Year’s resolution – write a blog post a day for a month!  Not sure if I’ll be able to stick to it when I get back to work, but I’m going to try!

My aim is to improve my writing skills (?!).  I am not sure if this is something that can be learnt (e.g. from a book) or whether I just need to practise to improve.  Things I find difficult/ problem areas:

1. not being able to say what I want in a succinct way and ending up writing loads of waffle (which I then can’t be bothered to edit);

2. reverting to lists as a way of getting round the above (this post being a case in point!);

3. spending way too long editing and revising a post, so that blog writing becomes a chore and not something enjoyable;

4. not always having anything to write about :-(

5. not sounding like myself in my blog posts.  (In particular, I feel  my posts lack in humour sometimes and can sound clinical … like I’m writing a SLT report!)

Anyway, the challenge starts now, so we’ll see how it goes.  Any writing tips would be appreciated!
